Measuring a bore accurately — not just its diameter but also ovality, taper, and barrel shape — is one of those jobs where a vernier caliper or telescoping gauge simply won’t give you a straight answer. The Mitutoyo 511-402 Dial Bore Gauge is the professional’s solution: a self-centring two-point measuring head that transfers bore geometry directly to a dial indicator, letting you see ovality and taper at a glance down to the micron. In the 35-60mm range, this is a workhorse setup for engine cylinders, hydraulic bores, bearing housings, and bushing fits — exactly the sizes that matter most in automotive, hydraulic, and general toolroom work.

This 511-402 has seen genuine shop-floor service, which is the whole point of a tool like this. Mechanically it’s sound: the pendulum-guide mechanism slides cleanly, the centring bridge operates as it should, and the anvil threads are clean. Cosmetically expect honest working patina — some handling marks and light wear on the body and grip consistent with a tool that’s been used rather than shelved. Carbide contact points are intact with no visible chipping or mushrooming. Being transparent: no dial indicator is included with this set, so you’ll need to supply your own 8mm stem indicator (Mitutoyo 2046S or equivalent). As always with used measuring gear, we recommend verifying against a setting ring or micrometer before production use.
