Description

Product Overview

The Mitutoyo 468-982 Holtest 3-Point Internal Bore Micrometer covers the 12–25mm range and represents the benchmark for direct-reading internal measurement in a production or toolroom environment. Unlike a two-point bore gauge that requires a master to set a relative reading, the Holtest gives you an absolute, digital readout straight off the spindle — no separate indicator, no zeroing against a ring gauge before every measurement. Three equally-spaced, spring-loaded carbide-tipped contacts self-centre in the bore, making it fast to use and forgiving of operator technique on the shop floor.

  • 3-Point Self-Centring Contact System — The three carbide contacts locate automatically on the true centreline of the bore, eliminating the rocking-and-sweeping technique required with a two-point mic. That translates directly to faster cycle times and more consistent readings between operators — critical when you’re checking a batch of bored housings or finish-reamed holes to a tight H7 fit.
  • Digital Readout with 0.001mm Resolution — Reading a thimble graduation inside a dark bore is a recipe for misreads. The digital display removes that ambiguity entirely. At one-micron resolution you’re working comfortably within the tolerance bands typical of toolroom and production work — bearing bores, hydraulic cylinder bores, valve bodies.
  • IP65 Ingress Protection — Coolant and swarf are a fact of life at the machine. IP65 means the instrument is sealed against coolant splash and dust ingress, so you can use it at the lathe or machining centre without babying it. That’s not a given at this price point — it’s a deliberate engineering choice by Mitutoyo.
  • Setting Ring Included — A matched setting ring is supplied with this kit. For a 3-point instrument with an absolute encoder you use the ring to verify zero and check for drift — not to set a relative reading. Having the correct ring in the box means you’re ready to verify calibration and establish traceability from day one without sourcing a separate master.
  • Ideal For — Checking bored and reamed holes in housings, confirming bearing-seat diameters to H-tolerance fits, verifying finish-bored cylinder bores on engine work, measuring hydraulic valve body bores, and incoming inspection of precision-machined parts where a two-point snap gauge won’t give you the roundness confidence you need.

Condition

(New — Factory Sealed)

This instrument is factory sealed and has not been used. The Mitutoyo packaging is intact, all original accessories are present, and the calibration certificate is included — meaning traceability to national standards is established out of the box. The carbide contacts, measuring faces, and digital assembly are in as-manufactured condition. There is nothing to disclose in the way of wear, contact marking, or surface handling. As with any precision instrument that has been in storage, a quick zero verification against the supplied setting ring before first use is always sound practice — not because anything is expected to be out, but because it confirms your baseline and gives you confidence in the first measurement you sign off on.

Included:

  • 1 x Mitutoyo Holtest 3-Point Digital Internal Bore Micrometer, 12–25mm, 468-982
  • 1 x Setting ring (matched to instrument range)
  • 1 x Calibration certificate
  • 1 x Original paperwork / manual
  • 1 x Original Mitutoyo case and packaging

Not included: Nothing expected is missing — this is a complete, sealed kit as shipped from Mitutoyo.

Brand Information

Mitutoyo is a Japanese precision instrument manufacturer founded in 1934 and is, by any reasonable measure, the global standard against which other metrology brands are judged. Their instruments are manufactured in Japan to exacting tolerances and are the dominant choice in toolrooms, quality labs, and production environments across Australia, North America, Europe, and Asia. In the context of bore measurement specifically, Mitutoyo’s Holtest series sits above general-purpose telescoping gauge and two-point bore mic territory — it is the instrument of choice when you need fast, reliable, absolute internal measurement and you can’t afford the ambiguity of a relative-reading system.
