Description
Product Overview
The Albrecht 1–13mm Keyless Drill Chuck is a precision-ground, self-tightening chuck built to the exacting standards that made Albrecht a benchmark name in toolroom-grade workholding. Designed for drilling machines, milling machines, and machining centres where concentricity and grip reliability matter, this chuck eliminates the fumbling with a chuck key and delivers repeatable, positive clamping action across its full capacity range — from fine 1mm drills right through to 13mm shanks.
- Keyless self-tightening mechanism — Albrecht’s patented self-tightening jaw design increases clamping force under cutting load. Unlike standard keyless chucks that can back off under torque, the Albrecht tightens as the drill bites, dramatically reducing drill slip during pecking cycles or when breaking through.
- 1–13mm capacity range — covers the vast majority of jobber drills used in everyday machining, from #60 equivalent fine work at 1mm up to half-inch equivalent at 13mm, making this one chuck that earns bench space without compromise.
- Precision-ground jaws and body — Albrecht chucks are manufactured to tight TIR (Total Indicator Runout) tolerances, typically under 0.05mm at the jaw face. Low runout directly translates to cleaner holes, longer drill life, and less chatter — particularly important when spot drilling or reaming.
- Compatibility and mounting — this chuck features a rear arbor mounting interface (inspect the taper bore prior to purchase to confirm JT33, B16, or equivalent — see specifications below). A compatible Jacobs taper or straight-shank arbor will be required to mount to your spindle; none is included with this listing.
- Ideal for — bench drill press and radial arm drilling operations, milling machine quill work, toolroom drilling of precision locations, repetitive production drilling where drill slip cannot be tolerated, and hobbyist CNC router spindle setups requiring reliable small-to-mid-range capacity.
Condition
New Old Stock (Unused / Stored in grease — minor cosmetic staining to lower body)
This chuck has never been put to work. The jaws show no wear, no scoring, and no contact marks consistent with a tool that has genuinely never held a drill — exactly what you’d expect from a properly stored NOS item. The knurled grip rings turn smoothly and the self-tightening mechanism operates as it should. The precision jaw faces and internal bore show no signs of rust or corrosion where it counts mechanically. The chuck has been stored coated in preserving grease or oil inside a plastic bag for a number of years — a common and entirely appropriate storage method for toolroom stock.
The lower grip ring and the arbor mounting face (the rear of the chuck body) show some discolouration — surface staining consistent with moisture migrating under the plastic bag combined with the preserving grease, rather than active pitting rust. This is a cosmetic issue confined to the outer lower surfaces and the arbor seat area. Buyers should clean the arbor taper bore thoroughly with a clean rag and solvent before mounting, then verify the seating surface is clean and true. A wipe-down with Scotch-Brite or a rag and solvent will address the staining on the body. There is no evidence this affects the chuck’s mechanical function, concentricity, or jaw accuracy. As with any NOS precision chuck, we recommend verifying TIR against a known-good ground test bar or precision drill shank once mounted, before putting it into production use.
Included:
- 1 x Albrecht Keyless Self-Tightening Drill Chuck, 1–13mm capacity
Not included: Arbor (Jacobs taper or straight shank adapter required — not supplied), storage case, chuck key (not applicable — keyless design).
Brand Information
Albrecht is a German precision tooling manufacturer with a history stretching back to 1864, and is widely regarded as the originator of the keyless self-tightening drill chuck concept. Made in Germany, Albrecht chucks sit at the top tier of workholding quality — comparable in prestige and precision to Röhm and Seco, and a significant step above commodity import chucks in concentricity, grip reliability, and longevity. In Australian toolrooms and machine shops, an Albrecht chuck is considered a buy-once, use-for-decades investment rather than a consumable.
