The Vertex BT30 ER32 Collet Chuck is a workhorse toolholder designed for CNC machining centres running a BT30 spindle taper. - BT30 Taper Interface — The BT (Big-Plus compatible geometry) 30-taper shank provides a positive, repeatable seating in the spindle with dual contact at both the taper and flange face on compatible machines. Consistent seating means predictable runout every time the tool goes back in — critical when you’re holding tight tolerances on repeat jobs.
- ER32 Collet System — ER32 is the most widely used collet standard in the industry for good reason: it covers shank diameters from 2mm up to 20mm in a single nut, accepts both metric and inch tooling, and the spring collet design provides excellent grip concentricity. A quality ER32 collet can hold runout to within a few thou at the nose — more than adequate for general milling, drilling, and light finishing work.
- Retention Knob / Pull Stud Interface — BT30 holders use a metric M12 pull stud (retention knob) threaded into the top of the taper. The pull stud is what the spindle drawbar grips to retain the holder under cutting loads. Without the correct pull stud fitted, this holder cannot be used in an ATC or manual spindle — confirm your machine’s pull stud specification before use.
- Compatibility — Fits any BT30 spindle machining centre (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Brother, Mazak, and many others). Requires a BT30-spec pull stud (not included) and the appropriate ER32 collet for your tool shank diameter. The external body shows visible wear patina, surface oxidation, and discolouration consistent with coolant exposure and general shop use — as is evident in the product images. The flange face and taper bore show the kind of marking typical of a holder that’s been cycled through an ATC repeatedly. That said, the ER32 collet nut threads are intact and functional, and the holder is described by the seller as still fully usable. The BT30 taper itself — the critical seating surface — should be inspected closely before use: check for dings, raised burrs, or fretting on the taper bore that could affect seating concentricity. A light stone and clean with a lint-free cloth before first use is strongly recommended. Verify runout at the collet nose with a test bar or known-good shank and a dial indicator before committing this holder to any tolerance-critical work. For roughing, drilling, and general-purpose milling where a few extra thou of runout is acceptable, this holder will do the job without hesitation. The included ER32 20–19mm collet adds immediate usability for 19–20mm shank tooling straight out of the box.
