Description
Product Overview
The Mitutoyo 513-415-10 is a lever-type dial test indicator (DTI) with a 0.01mm graduation, designed for the kind of precise comparative measurement work that separates a properly set-up machine from one that’s just close enough. With its compact tilting head, extended 41mm contact point, and 0–50–0 balanced dial reading to ±0.14mm total range, this is a toolroom-grade instrument built for work where a thou off the mark isn’t acceptable. New Old Stock and presenting like new — this is a genuine Mitutoyo, made in Japan, straight out of the box.
- 0.01mm graduation on a balanced 0–50–0 dial — The centre-zero layout means you can set zero at mid-travel and read positive or negative deflection directly, without mental arithmetic. Critical when you’re sweeping a four-jaw chuck or indicating a vice parallel and need to split the difference cleanly.
- Extended 41mm contact point (long tip) — The longer stylus arm gives you reach into bores, recesses, and tight setups where a standard-length tip won’t make contact. Particularly useful on CNC fixtures, rotary table setups, or when sweeping the face of a tall workpiece mounted in a vice.
- Tilting lever head with dovetail mount — The pivot body allows the contact point angle to be adjusted through a wide arc, letting you approach the work from positions that would defeat a straight plunger-type indicator. This is what makes a lever DTI the go-to for lathe runout checks and bore alignment work.
- Compatibility — Fits the standard Mitutoyo Series 513 dovetail clamp system. Compatible with Mitutoyo universal holders and most third-party magnetic base arms that accept the dovetail mount. The long tip is fitted as standard on this model; spare contact points (ball or flat) are available separately from Mitutoyo.
- Ideal for — Tramming a mill head square to the table, sweeping a four-jaw chuck for on-centre work, checking lathe spindle runout, indicating a vice or angle plate parallel on a surface grinder, aligning workpieces on a rotary table, and bore alignment checks in fitting and assembly work.
Condition
New Old Stock (Unused / Presents Like New)
This indicator has not been used in service. The dial face is unmarked, the crystal is clear with no scratches or chips, and the bezel and body show no wear marks, dings, or contact scuffs consistent with bench use. The 41mm contact point stylus is straight and undamaged — on a used lever DTI, a bent or worn tip is usually the first thing to go, and this one is clean. The pivot action is smooth and the needle returns crisply to zero with no stiction or drag, indicating the internal lever mechanism is in full working order. As with any NOS precision instrument that has been stored rather than actively calibrated, we recommend verifying zero against a known flat reference or calibrated gauge block before committing the indicator to critical work. That said, Mitutoyo’s manufacturing tolerance on this series is tight, and NOS examples overwhelmingly come up within spec straight out of the box.

Brand Information
Mitutoyo Corporation, founded in Japan in 1934, is widely regarded as the benchmark manufacturer in precision metrology — the name machinists and toolmakers reach for when accuracy is non-negotiable. Their instruments are calibrated and manufactured to JCSS-traceable standards at facilities in Japan, and Mitutoyo sits in the top tier of the global metrology market alongside Mahr, Starrett, and Tesa. For Australian toolrooms, Mitutoyo is the dominant precision instrument brand for a reason: consistent manufacturing quality, reliable after-sales support, and a comprehensive range of replacement parts and accessories that are actually stocked locally.
