Description
FSK 150mm Precision Machinist Level
The FSK 150mm Machinist Level is a compact, high-sensitivity spirit level built to the exacting standards Japanese toolroom practice demands. Manufactured by Fuji Seimitsukeiki K.K. (FSK), this is the kind of instrument you reach for when setting up a surface grinder table, tramming a mill head, or confirming a lathe bed hasn’t twisted — tasks where eyeballing it simply isn’t good enough. With a graduation of 0.02mm/m (1 DIV = 0.02mm/m), it reads fine enough to catch errors that would ruin a precision job long before you spot them with a less sensitive tool.
- 0.02mm/m per division sensitivity — At this graduation, each bubble division represents a height deviation of 0.02mm over one metre. That’s the resolution you need for surface grinder table alignment, precision lathe levelling, and flatness checking on ground reference surfaces where even a tenth of a thou of tilt matters to the finished part.
- Compact 150mm format — The shorter body lets you work in confined machine envelopes — across a mill table, on a surface plate, or along a lathe cross-slide — without the instrument overhanging or rocking. A longer level sounds better on paper; a 150mm fits where it needs to.
- Auxiliary cross-level vial — The transverse bubble visible on the right end of the instrument lets you confirm the level is sitting square on its reference surface in both axes simultaneously. Critical when setting up on compound curves or checking a rotary table for tilt.
- Ground reference base — The base of this instrument is precision-ground, giving a stable, repeatable contact surface. A machined but unground base introduces its own error into the measurement; a ground base means the reading you’re getting is the machine’s error, not the instrument’s.
- Ideal for — Levelling and aligning surface grinders, tramming mill heads and columns, lathe bed twist checks, setting up angle plates and sine bars on a surface plate, confirming rotary table tilt, and machine tool installation and re-commissioning.
Condition
(Used — Good Condition / Light surface wear, fully functional)
Mechanically, this level is in good working order. The main longitudinal vial moves freely and responds correctly to tilt — the bubble settles without sticking or hesitation, which is the primary indicator of a serviceable level. The cross-level vial on the end is intact and functional. The instrument has been well lubricated and shows no signs of neglect. The ground reference base is the surface that matters most for accuracy: it carries light scratches consistent with normal workshop use, but there are no gouges, dings, or raised burrs that would compromise the contact footprint or introduce a repeatable seating error. Light scratches on a ground surface are cosmetic; a raised edge or a bruise would be a functional issue — this base has neither. The black cast body shows the honest patina of a used toolroom instrument — nothing structural. As with any used precision level changing hands, we recommend zeroing the instrument against a known-good surface plate or a calibrated master level before putting it into service. Reverse the level 180° on your reference surface and average the two readings to establish the instrument’s own error — a standard field check that takes two minutes and tells you everything you need to know.
Included:
- 1 x FSK 150mm Precision Machinist Level (No. 22115, 1 DIV = 0.02mm/m)
- 1 x Original FSK wooden storage box
Not included: Calibration certificate. If traceable calibration is required for your quality system, budget for a re-cal through a NATA-accredited lab.
Brand Information
FSK — Fuji Seimitsukeiki K.K. — is a Japanese precision instrument manufacturer with a long-standing reputation in the metrology and machine tool accessory market. FSK levels and measuring instruments sit comfortably alongside RSK and Mitutoyo in the Japanese precision tool tier: manufactured to tight tolerances, with properly ground reference surfaces and quality vial assemblies that hold their sensitivity over time. Japanese-made metrology tools of this era are widely regarded in Australian toolrooms as reliable, accurate, and built to last — this is not a budget import dressed up with branding.
