This is a used Kanetec MB-PB magnetic base fitted with a flex-style articulated arm. It operates on the cable-lock system — a steel tension cable running through the centre of the linked segments. When the knob is turned, the whole arm locks up rigid and holds position as intended. The magnetic base switches on and off cleanly and the arm tightens and releases without issue.
Cosmetically it shows normal honest wear from workshop use, but nothing that affects its function.
Kanetec is a well-known Japanese brand in the metrology and workholding space. Some of their lower-cost bases are produced in China, including this one, though the overall build quality is still solid for typical indicator and setup work.
