Description
Product Overview
The Mitutoyo 192-130 is a 300mm dial height gauge built for toolroom-grade layout and inspection work. Combining a mechanical dial indicator with a mechanical counter, this gauge gives you a reliable, battery-free height reference that’s readable at a glance — ideal for bench work where you need repeatable results without fussing over a digital display. The dual-rail column keeps the slider travelling true, and the scriber jaw is offset-stepped to allow scribing right at the base reference plane. If you’re setting up workpieces on a surface plate, checking step heights, or transferring dimensions from a master to a part, this is the gauge that earns its place on the bench.
- 300mm measuring range with 0.01mm dial graduation — covers the vast majority of workshop height-setting tasks; the 0.01mm (roughly half a thou) graduation means you’re not guessing when scribing datum lines or checking shoulder heights on turned components.
- Mechanical counter + dial indicator combined readout — the counter tracks whole millimetres while the dial reads the fine increment, eliminating the cumulative counting errors you get when running a plain dial gauge over a long travel. No battery, no wake-up delay, no dead display mid-job.
- Dual hardened-rail column — twin parallel rods constrain the slider against rocking, which matters when you’re scribing a line across a large casting or transferring a height to a workpiece held in a vice. Single-beam gauges flex; this one doesn’t.
- Ground and hardened base — the base is the reference. A flat, hardened base that sits cleanly on a surface plate without rocking is what separates a height gauge from a guess. The ground base here mates to a surface plate properly, keeping your datum honest.
- Ideal for — scribing datum lines on raw stock before milling, checking shoulder and step heights on turned or milled components, verifying jaw height on a vice setup, transferring heights from a setting master to a part, and inspection work on a surface plate.
Condition
Used (Good Condition / Surface Wear, Cracked Dial Crystal)
Mechanically, this gauge is in solid working order. The slider travels smoothly along both rails without noticeable slop or binding, the fine-adjust knob functions correctly, and the mechanical counter advances and retracts cleanly through the full range. The dial indicator reads consistently, and the scriber jaw is present and undamaged. The ground base shows the honest patina of a gauge that’s been used on a surface plate — light contact marks consistent with normal service, but no dings or damage that would affect how it seats. The most notable cosmetic issue is a small crack in the dial face crystal (cover glass). This is a cosmetic defect only — it does not affect the dial needle’s travel, the readability of the graduations, or the accuracy of the instrument. The crack is in the crystal, not the dial plate, and the needle moves freely without obstruction. Normal workshop handling will keep it serviceable as-is; if you prefer a pristine face, replacement crystals for Mitutoyo dial gauges are available as service parts. As with any used precision instrument, we recommend zeroing the gauge against a known reference surface plate and verifying the counter and dial agree at several points across the range before putting it to work. Overall, this is a capable, accurate height gauge at a used price — exactly the kind of tool that earns a permanent spot on the bench.

Brand Information
Mitutoyo is Japan’s largest manufacturer of precision measuring instruments and one of the most respected metrology brands in the world, sitting comfortably alongside Mahr and Tesa at the top of the professional toolroom tier. Founded in 1934 and headquartered in Kawasaki, Japan, Mitutoyo manufactures everything from micrometres and vernier callipers through to CMMs and laser measurement systems — all held to the same rigorous JIS and ISO standards that make their tools a benchmark reference in trade, manufacturing, and metrology laboratories worldwide. In an Australian workshop, a Mitutoyo on the bench is a known quantity: consistent, well-supported, and with a broad spares and accessory ecosystem that keeps instruments serviceable for decades.
