The Mitutoyo 960-703 Precision Square Level (often referred to as a Box Level) is a highly specialized layout and inspection instrument engineered to check both horizontal levelness and vertical squareness.
- Dual-Plane Inspection: The square box geometry (200mm x 200mm) features precision-machined reference faces on both the bottom and the sides. This allows you to place it flat on a machine bed to verify level, and then place it against a vertical column to verify plumb and squareness to the bedway.
- Extreme Sensitivity: This level is designed for high-end machine tool rebuilding and aerospace layout. The primary longitudinal vial features an ultra-sensitive 0.02 mm/m resolution, allowing you to detect microscopic geometry deviations before you lock down your machine feet.
- Transverse Vial: It includes a secondary transverse vial to help you ensure the level is seated perfectly flat and isn’t tilted forward or backward during measurement.
- V-Groove Faces: The measuring bases feature precision V-grooves, making it completely stable when placed on cylindrical parts like precision shafts or round drill press columns.

- Storage & Preservation: To protect it against rust and atmospheric moisture, the tool has been heavily lathered in protective grease and securely wrapped in plastic.
- Surface Condition: Beneath the grease, the critical measuring faces remain smooth to the touch and entirely functional for precision machine setup and alignment.
- Included Setup: It comes safely housed in its original Mitutoyo wooden storage box. Note: You will need to wipe down the storage grease before use!
