The KKS UFB-3 is a specialised Universal Facing & Boring Head equipped with an MT3 (Morse Taper 3) shank.
Unlike a standard boring head that simply holds a tool at a fixed diameter, a Facing Head is a complex piece of engineering that allows the tool slide to feed radially while the spindle is rotating.
- Dual Function: capable of standard static boring (sizing holes) as well as Facing (machining flat surfaces), Grooving (cutting O-ring or snap ring grooves), and even tapering.
- Auto-Feed Mechanism: These heads typically feature a mechanism that, when the outer ring is held stationary (usually via a stop rod), drives the tool slide outwards or inwards automatically, allowing for precision surfacing at the bottom of a bore or on a boss.
- MT3 Shank: The integral Morse Taper 3 shank ensures maximum rigidity and minimizes runout compared to threaded-shank heads.
