The Mitutoyo 146-222 is a specialized Groove Micrometer (Series 146) designed to measure the width, depth, and location of grooves inside bores and tubes.
Unlike standard micrometers, this tool features a Rotating Spindle with flanged measuring discs.
- How it works: You insert the spindle into the bore, and the flanged discs allow you to measure the width of internal grooves (like O-ring seats or circlip grooves) or the “land” width between grooves.
- Two-Directional: It can measure both “Inside” dimensions (groove width) and “Outside” dimensions (land width) thanks to the dual-flange design.
- Ratchet Stop: Equipped with a ratchet stop to ensure constant measuring force, which is critical when measuring delicate internal features that could be distorted by overtightening.

The micrometer itself is in great used condition. The measuring faces are clean, the spindle rotation is smooth, and the ratchet stop functions correctly.
Note on Packaging: The original storage box shows signs of age (“a little old”) with some shelf wear, but it still closes securely to protect the instrument.
