Description
Product Overview
The Mitutoyo ID-C Series Digimatic Indicator 543-710 is a full-travel digital dial indicator built to Japanese toolroom standards. Featuring Mitutoyo’s ABSOLUTE linear encoder technology, this indicator holds its last position through power cycles — no need to re-establish zero after switching off. Whether it’s on a surface plate, a comparator stand, or clamped to a mill spindle for tramming, the 543-710 delivers consistent, readable digital output where a conventional dial would demand squinting and interpolation.
- ABSOLUTE Encoder Technology — No Re-zeroing After Power Cycle: Unlike incremental encoders that lose position on shutdown, Mitutoyo’s ABSOLUTE system retains the last reading. On the shop floor this means you can power down mid-setup, come back after a break, and your reference is still live. Critical when you’re mid-way through a multi-step runout check or haven’t finished tramming a head.
- 0.001 mm Resolution Over a 12.7 mm Range: One-micron resolution across the full plunger travel gives you reliable readings in the single-thou range without the parallax error of a needle over a graduated dial. For work like checking taper in a four-jaw setup or verifying flatness on a surface grinder, you’re reading a number — not estimating between graduations.
- Data Output (SPC Port): The DATA button and SPC output port allow live measurement data to be sent directly to a Mitutoyo Digimatic Mini Processor, data logger, or SPC software via a compatible cable. Useful when you’re building a measurement record for a job lot, or feeding data into a QC system without transcription error.
- Stem / Shank Compatibility: The 543-710 uses an 8 mm stem, which fits standard indicator holders, magnetic bases, and universal arm clamps without an adaptor. The knurled thimble-style bezel and scroll wheel allow quick orientation of the display once clamped. A Luer-type contact point is fitted as standard; ruby or carbide contacts are direct replacements if needed for abrasive or high-cycle applications.
- Ideal For: Tramming mill heads and spindles, setting four-jaw chucks, lathe tailstock alignment, surface grinder dresser height repeatability checks, runout measurement on turned components, and comparator-stand go/no-go inspection of machined features.
Condition
(New Old Stock / Unused — Complete Original)
This indicator is unused and in original condition. The LCD, plunger, contact point, stem, and bezel show no signs of use or wear — no bench marks, no contact-point wear, no scratches on the stem bore. It presents exactly as it would from a new box. The seller notes the battery has been installed for testing purposes only, meaning the unit has been powered up and confirmed functional — the ABSOLUTE encoder, display, and button functions are all live and responsive. A fresh SR44 / 938 cell is recommended before putting the tool into regular service, though the installed battery may have sufficient charge remaining. All original paperwork and a calibration certificate are included (not pictured). For absolute confidence before critical work, verification against a certified gauge block stack or ring master is always sound practice, but there is no functional reason this tool would not meet Mitutoyo’s published accuracy specification straight from the box.
