Description
Product Overview
The Mitutoyo 3060S-19 is a 100mm travel dial gauge built to Japanese Industrial Standard tolerances — a long-stroke indicator designed for applications where a standard 10mm or 50mm gauge simply won’t reach. Whether you’re checking the full travel of a machine slide, verifying the depth of a large bore step, or running a part through its complete stroke during an in-process inspection, the 100mm range eliminates the need to reset and re-zero mid-measurement. This is a New Old Stock example, unused and backed by a Mitutoyo Certificate of Inspection — you’re getting factory-fresh accuracy in a tool that’s been sitting in its original packaging rather than doing rounds on a production floor.
- 100mm measuring range with 0.01mm graduation — Ten times the travel of a standard workshop dial gauge, which means you can track long-axis runout, check full slide travel, or inspect large-diameter workpiece faces in a single sweep without lifting the gauge off the surface. The 0.01mm (10 micron) graduation gives you enough resolution for the vast majority of fitting, alignment, and in-process inspection tasks.
- Continuous dial (non-reversing) with revolution counter — The 3060S series uses a balanced continuous-reading dial with a revolution counter to track cumulative travel across the 100mm range. This is critical when measuring beyond one dial rotation — you always know exactly where you are in the stroke without mental arithmetic or risk of miscount.
- Mitutoyo-grade rack-and-pinion movement — Mitutoyo’s internal gear train is manufactured to JIS B 7503 tolerances. On a gauge like this, smooth, consistent spindle feel across the entire 100mm of travel is what separates a tool you can trust from one that gives you erratic mid-stroke readings. The mechanism has not been used, so there’s no wear to the rack, pinion, or jewelled bearings.
- 8mm stem for standard indicator holders and snugs — The 8mm diameter stem is the global standard for dial indicator mounting. It drops straight into any back-post, magnetic base arm, surface gauge, or dedicated indicator holder without adaptors. The lug-back version is available separately if you need fixed mounting, but the stem alone covers 99% of workshop setups.
- Ideal for: Checking full slide travel on lathes and mills, tramming oversize or extended mill heads where Z-travel is significant, runout inspection on large-diameter face plates or chucks, verifying parallelism of long guide surfaces on surface grinders, and incoming goods inspection of shafts or bars where total indicated runout (TIR) exceeds the range of a standard gauge.
Condition
New Old Stock (Unused / Original Factory Packaging)
This gauge is unused and in the same condition it left the Mitutoyo factory. The dial glass is unmarked, the bezel rotates freely with no stiffness, the spindle moves smoothly and returns crisply under spring pressure across the full 100mm of travel, and there is no contact wear on the measuring face or stem. The certificate of inspection is present, signed, and specific to this instrument’s serial number — meaning the factory accuracy data is traceable to this exact gauge, not a batch average. The cardboard packaging shows minor shelf storage marks consistent with age, but the instrument itself has never been put to work. As with any NOS precision instrument, a quick verification against a calibrated reference — a slip gauge stack or a certified setting master — before first use in a critical application is good practice, particularly if the tool has been stored for an extended period. That said, the presence of the original Mitutoyo calibration certificate is a strong baseline assurance that this gauge left the factory within specification.
Included:
- 1 x Mitutoyo 3060S-19 Dial Gauge, 100mm range, 0.01mm graduation
- Original Mitutoyo retail box and moulded cardboard packaging
- Mitutoyo Certificate of Inspection (serialised to this instrument)
- Original Mitutoyo instruction documentation / papers
Not included: No magnetic base or indicator stand included. No contact point extensions beyond factory-fitted contact point.
Brand Information
Mitutoyo Corporation, founded in Japan in 1934, is the benchmark name in precision metrology worldwide — the brand that toolrooms, calibration laboratories, and production floors in Australia and globally use as their reference standard. Their instruments are manufactured in Japan to JIS and ISO tolerances with traceability to national measurement standards, and the Mitutoyo name sits at the top tier of the metrology market alongside Mahr and Tesa, well above the commodity gauge market. When Australian toolmakers and quality engineers specify a dial gauge brand by name on an inspection procedure, it is almost always Mitutoyo — that reputation is built on consistent manufacturing quality, available calibration support, and a global service network.
