Description
Product Overview
A complete, ready-to-use Mitutoyo 511-127 Dial Bore Gauge set covering the 35–60mm range — one of the most practical bore gauge spans you can own in a general-purpose toolroom or engine shop. Paired with a Mitutoyo 2046S (10mm travel / 0.01mm graduation) dial indicator and a full set of interchangeable extension rods, this set lets you check cylinder bores, bushing IDs, housing fits, and bearing seats with genuine Japanese toolroom accuracy. Everything lives in the original moulded case, so it’s bench-ready the moment it arrives.
- 35–60mm measuring range with interchangeable anvil extensions — The 511-127 uses a set of stepped extension rods (35mm through 60mm, in 5mm increments) to span the full range. Swapping rods takes seconds, and because each rod is hardened and ground to a defined length, there’s no guesswork in your setup — just install the correct rod, zero against a setting ring or outside micrometer, and you’re measuring.
- 0.01mm graduation dial indicator (Mitutoyo 2046S) — Ten-millimetre total travel gives you enough working stroke to handle surface variation and out-of-round conditions without the needle bottoming out mid-pass. At 0.01mm (roughly half a thou) per division, you’ll resolve taper, bell-mouth, and ovality that a two-point snap gauge would miss entirely — critical when you’re checking cylinder liners or fitting precision bushings to tolerance.
- Centralising spring mechanism with replaceable contact points — The rocking action of the bore gauge head automatically centres the measuring anvils perpendicular to the bore axis. This is what separates a bore gauge from a telescoping gauge and a mike: you get a repeatable, geometry-controlled measurement every time, not a figure that varies with hand angle. The contact points are replaceable if they ever wear.
- Compatibility and accessories — The 511-127 accepts the standard Mitutoyo 2046S series indicator (8mm stem / lug-back mount) — confirmed fitted in this set. Extension rods No.1 (35mm) through No.6 (60mm) are the correct accessories for this model. A setting ring or a calibrated outside micrometer is required for zeroing; neither is included in this set.
- Ideal for — Engine cylinder bore measurement (checking taper and ovality between piston passes), fitting interference-fit bushings in housings, checking bearing housing IDs before press-fit assembly, verifying reamed holes to H7/H6 tolerance, and inspecting hydraulic cylinder bores for wear.
Condition
(Used — Good Condition / Complete Set, Original Case)
Mechanically, this set is in solid working order. The dial indicator needle responds crisply with no lag or stick, the rack-and-pinion action in the gauge body is smooth, and the rocking centralising mechanism functions correctly — it self-centres cleanly through the full range of extension rods. The measuring anvil contact points show normal use wear but retain a functional surface; no pitting or flat spots were noted. The extension rods are all present and accounted for (No.1 through No.6, 35–60mm) and seat positively in the gauge body without perceptible play. The indicator bezel shows light handling marks consistent with shop use, and the case exterior has the expected scuffs and surface wear of a tool that’s been on the bench — nothing structural. There is minor surface patina on the steel extension rods, which is cosmetic only and does not affect their ground reference lengths. As with any used precision bore gauge, we recommend zeroing the set against a calibrated setting ring or a known-good outside micrometer before taking production measurements. If the application demands certified accuracy, a NATA-calibrated ring gauge check is the correct verification path.

Brand Information
Mitutoyo Corporation, founded in Japan in 1934, is the benchmark against which most other precision measuring instrument brands are judged. Their metrology tools are manufactured to tolerances that satisfy ISO, JIS, and ASME standards, and Mitutoyo instruments are found on the inspection benches of aerospace, automotive, and defence manufacturers worldwide. In the Australian market, Mitutoyo sits at the top tier alongside Mahr and Tesa — a clear step above import-grade instruments and the go-to brand for toolmakers and metrologists who need traceable, repeatable results shift after shift.
