Description

Product Overview

The Mitutoyo 103-141 is a 100–125 mm range outside micrometer. With a 0.01 mm graduation on a ground and hardened spindle and anvil, this is the go-to tool when a vernier calliper doesn’t cut it and you need reliable, repeatable results in a range that many cheaper micrometers handle poorly.

  • 100–125 mm measuring range, 0.01 mm graduation — Covers a critical mid-range that catches a lot of shaft and sleeve work on the lathe or surface grinder. The 0.01 mm (roughly half a thou) graduation is fine enough for most toolroom and production fitting tasks without the added complexity of a vernier micrometer.
  • Hardened and ground measuring faces — Mitutoyo’s carbide-tipped anvil and spindle faces resist wear from repeated use on steel, cast iron, and hard alloys. This directly protects long-term accuracy — soft faces lap away and kill your zero faster than anything else on a workhorse micrometer.
  • Ratchet thimble / friction stop — Applies a consistent measuring force every time, eliminating the operator-to-operator variation you get from a plain thimble. Critical for repeatable results across multiple setups or when handing the tool between operators on the floor.
  • Supplied with 100 mm setting standard — Large-range micrometers must be zeroed against a reference standard, not against a closed spindle. The included 100 mm gauge block or setting rod means you can verify and set the instrument correctly before it touches a part.
  • Ideal for: Measuring turned shaft diameters and bearing journal fits on the lathe, checking ground stock and cylindrical-ground components on the surface grinder, verifying bore bar and mandrel ODs, incoming inspection of bar stock in the 100–125 mm range, and final-inspection checks on housings and sleeves in a toolroom or fitting environment.

Condition

(Used — Good Condition / Presents Almost Unused)

This example presents in exceptional condition for a used instrument — surfaces are clean, the thimble action is smooth and backlash-free, and the measuring faces show no visible pitting, scoring, or lap wear under inspection. The frame’s painted finish retains its original lustre with no meaningful handling patina. The spindle lock functions correctly, and the ratchet stop engages and releases cleanly with consistent torque feel. No corrosion is visible on any precision surface. Given the near-unused presentation, it is reasonable to expect this instrument is performing close to its original factory specification, though as with any used precision tool, verification against the supplied 100 mm standard prior to first use in a critical application is strongly recommended. If tolerance stack-up matters in your work, a formal calibration against a certified master reference is worth the investment — but for toolroom and general machining use, a zero-check against the setting standard will confirm serviceability immediately.

  • 1 x Calibration certificate (original — advise re-calibration if traceability is required for your QA system)

Not Included

  • No additional setting standards beyond the 100 mm reference rod
  • No current NATA-traceable calibration certificate — original cert supplied; recertification recommended for formal QA use

Brand Information

Mitutoyo Corporation, founded in Japan in 1934, is the global benchmark in precision metrology — their instruments are the reference standard against which most other brands in the toolroom and inspection sector are compared. Made in Japan, Mitutoyo micrometers are used in aerospace, automotive, and precision engineering environments worldwide, and sit firmly at the top tier of the market alongside Mahr, Starrett, and Tesa. When you buy Mitutoyo, you’re buying into decades of manufacturing consistency, a global calibration and service network, and instrument geometry that holds up over a working lifetime when properly maintained.
